PRE-SEASON CLASSES

Once again this year, Mike Pavlot will be holding training classes for any official interested in attending. These classes are so valuable; if you've never been, please consider attending. Classes will be held every Sunday in the month of October (10, 17, 24, & 31) at the Glen Park Fire Hall from 9:30-11:30 AM.

Any new officials should be attending these classes as it will make the required test in November much easier to understand. Contact Mike Pavlot at (315) 778-2690 with any questions.

CONGRATULATIONS!

As winter turns to spring, many of our officials begin a new season. For over 30 years, Mike Branski has officiated lacrosse. Beginning at the high school level, Mike climber the ladder and reached the top, officiating NCAA D-1 games, including the Final Four. For his hard work, Mike was recognized by Summit Lacrosse, as he is now recognized as one of the "Legends of Lake Placid Lacrosse". Mike, along with long time partner, and fellow Watertown Lacrosse official Spike Decker both received the Larry Piatelli award. What a great honor for a great guy! Congrats Mike - Board 59 applauds your accomplishment! Click the link below to read the story.

LATEST UPDATE

*On January 25, Section III voted to extend the winter sports season to March 13. Previoiusly, the season end date was set at February 28.

On Friday January 22, NYS lifted the restrictions on "high risk" sports. At this point, there is no definite guidance on how/when/if we will return to the basketball floor. However, we will continue to proceed as if there will be some sort of a season; whatever that may look like.

Any information we get will be passed along to the membership. Syracuse.com seems to be the most reliable and up-to-date website to find the latest information regarding this topic.

Article from Syracuse.com

- - - If you have not already done so, please log in to Arbiter. Mike will be communicating using Arbiter regarding game assignments. Also, if you have closed dates, please be sure to update those as well.

SOON IT MAY BE AGAINST THE LAW...

NYS Senator Rich Funke (Rochester) is introducing a bill that would make any assault on sports officials a Class "D" Felony, and harrassment a Class "B" Misdemeanor. Click here to read the article.

THREE MAN MECHANICS REFRESHER

With the playoffs and Sectionals fast approaching, three man mechanics will be in full effect. Doing two man for most of the season lends to getting rusty with three man. This article is a nice refresher with some good tips on what we should be looking for.

ASK FOR HELP

We talk about this subject on a regular basis. You have a game, and you and your partner are getting plenty of help from the crowd. And it never fails that there seems to be one fan that stands out among the rest. We have been instructed repeatedly - DO NOT INTERACT DIRECTLY WITH FANS! Seek the help from game management in these situations. THIS ARTICLE is a perfect example of what is possible when we engage fans personally.

"THE MOST THANKLESS JOB IN SPORTS"

Pretty good article from a coaches perspective. Click Here.

PROPER END-OF-GAME MANAGEMENT

The end of a close game can be exciting, as well as confusing. This article is why it is so important to be on top of your game for a full 32 minutes.

MESSAGE BOARD

I have created a forum, accessible only to us, where we can have dialogue throughout the season. Talk about plays, talk about rules, or talk about politics. It doesn't matter what you talk about. There is a link on the left side of this page to the Ref Room. You must register with a username and password. I have to validate each and every member who registers on the site, therefore I am able to keep non-board members off the forum. I think this can be another valuable and useful tool. Please take advantage it. It's simple to use.
